It can be a form when you open the account, a call after a large transfer, or a message that your account is restricted until you bring documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lead wp-block-paragraph\">Below is why banks ask, which documents work for each kind of income, and how to explain it so the bank closes the question instead of escalating it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In short<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list glance\"><li><strong>Why banks ask:<\/strong> Thai anti-money laundering rules require them to know where large or unusual money comes from. It is not an accusation.<\/li><li><strong>What works:<\/strong> documents that match the transfer: the same name, the same amount, the same dates.<\/li><li><strong>What does not work:<\/strong> a general story without papers, or screenshots that can be edited.<\/li><li><strong>Answer quickly:<\/strong> a question ignored for weeks often turns into a full freeze.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Thai banks ask about your source of funds<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thai banks must follow the Anti-Money Laundering Act and the rules of the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO). When the money on your account does not match what the bank knows about you, such as your visa, your job or the reason you gave for the account, the bank has to check. If it gets no answer, it can restrict the account or report the transactions to AMLO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video controls preload=\"metadata\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unblockpro.asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/4.-why-need-thai-banks.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In practice, banks ask most often after a large transfer from abroad, many transfers from different people, crypto or P2P activity, a cash deposit, or a sudden change in how the account is used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Which documents work for each kind of income<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Salary.<\/strong> Employment contract, payslips for the last months, and statements from the account where the salary arrives.<\/li><li><strong>Your own business.<\/strong> Company registration documents, invoices or contracts with clients, and the company\u2019s bank statements.<\/li><li><strong>Savings from abroad.<\/strong> Statements from your home bank that show the money leaving your own account, plus the SWIFT confirmation.<\/li><li><strong>Sale of property or a car.<\/strong> The sale contract and the statement showing the payment you received.<\/li><li><strong>Pension.<\/strong> Pension statements or letters, and the account where the pension arrives.<\/li><li><strong>Crypto.<\/strong> Exchange account statements in your name, the trade and withdrawal history, and P2P order screenshots with the buyer\u2019s name.<\/li><li><strong>A gift or a loan from family.<\/strong> A signed letter from the sender, a copy of their ID and their bank statement that shows the transfer.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Documents in Russian, Chinese or other languages often need a translation into English or Thai. Ask the branch which language they accept.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to write the explanation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Banks and police officers read many letters. A short, clear one works better than a long story. Write a signed one-page letter and attach the documents in the same order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Who you are.<\/strong> Name, passport number, visa and what you do in Thailand.<\/li><li><strong>Which transfers.<\/strong> The dates and amounts the bank asked about.<\/li><li><strong>Where the money came from.<\/strong> One or two sentences per transfer, with the matching document.<\/li><li><strong>What the account is for now.<\/strong> How you will use it from now on.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Write in English or Thai. A Thai version makes it easier for the branch and the police, especially outside Bangkok.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Common mistakes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Explaining without documents, or promising to send them \u201clater\u201d<\/li><li>Documents in another person\u2019s name without a letter that explains the link<\/li><li>Different stories for the bank and for the police<\/li><li>Edited screenshots or made-up invoices: this turns a question into a criminal case<\/li><li>Ignoring the bank\u2019s deadline<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">If the account is already frozen<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First find out who froze it. If it is the bank\u2019s own review, the right documents and a clear letter are usually enough.
