Visa-Free Stay, DTV and Long-Stay Visas

Since 15 September 2026, most visitors who come to Thailand without a visa can stay only 30 days instead of 60, and only for tourism. If you want to live here for months or years, you need the right visa for what you actually do here, not a chain of short stays.

Below: how long each option lets you stay, who it fits, what changed in 2026 and how to plan a stay that also works for your bank account.

In short

Visa-free entry is now 30 days for most eligible countries, with one extension of up to 30 days and no more than two such entries a year.

For months, not weeks, you need a visa: tourist, DTV, education, retirement, marriage or Non-B.

For years, the stable options are a Non-B with a work permit, retirement, marriage, LTR or Thailand Privilege.

Your visa must match your life here. Immigration and banks both check it.

Short stays: visa-free and tourist visa

Visa-free entry. Since 15 September 2026: 30 days for citizens of about 60 countries, for tourism only. A tourist or DTV visa with regular business income, or a long chain of visa-free entries, is a common reason for refused applications and account reviews. A stay that matches your real activity keeps both immigration and the bank calm. Which visas work for a Thai bank account

Common mistakes

Planning to live in Thailand on visa-free entries and border runs

Working for clients in Thailand on a tourist, DTV or education visa

Forgetting 90-day reports and re-entry permits

Using an education visa without real study

Receiving business income into a personal account on a short-stay visa

A typical situation

Someone lives in Thailand for two years on visa-free entries and tourist visas while working online. Immigration starts asking about frequent entries, and the bank reviews his account. After registering a company and getting a Non-B visa and a work permit, his stay and his income finally match. His life did not change. His status did.

How we can help

We check which visa fits your life and income, prepare the documents, coordinate the application with licensed partners and go with you to immigration. We also look at your bank account at the same time, so your visa and your money tell the same story. We cannot promise the decision, but we tell you honestly what is realistic before you pay.

Bank and visa call 1,690 THB for 30 minutes, Non-B visa from 37,900 THB, all including 7% VAT. Government and partner fees are separate. Visa help and prices

Questions we often hear

How long can I stay in Thailand without a visa?

Since 15 September 2026, usually 30 days for eligible countries, extendable once by up to 30 days, and no more than two such entries a year. Check your nationality before you travel.

Can I keep doing border runs?

Not as a long-term plan. With the limit on visa-free entries and more questions at the border, it is the least stable way to stay.

Which visa is best for living in Thailand?

It depends on what you do here. Work or business: Non-B with a work permit. Remote work: DTV. Age 50+: retirement. Thai spouse: marriage visa.

Can I work on a DTV visa?

You can work remotely for clients and employers abroad. Working for a Thai company or Thai clients needs a work permit.

This article is general information, not legal advice.
